Good Faith Estimate

Your Right to Transparent Fees: The No Surprises Act

If you plan to pay out-of-pocket for therapy, you have the legal right to receive a Good Faith Estimate (GFE) before services begin. A Good Faith Estimate helps you understand the expected cost of outpatient mental health therapy based on your needs, preferences, and goals.

Who This Applies To

This notice applies to self-pay clients, meaning:

  • You do not have health insurance, or

  • You choose not to use insurance for therapy services

If you plan to use your insurance benefits, this GFE policy does not apply.

What Is a Good Faith Estimate?

A Good Faith Estimate outlines what you might expect to pay for individual therapy before your first session. It may include:

  • Examples of services you may receive (such as CBT, mindfulness-based strategies, or EMDR)

  • The estimated cost per session

  • The estimated frequency or duration of sessions, if known

  • Any additional fees that may apply, such as late cancellations or documentation requests

A Good Faith Estimate is not a contract or a guarantee. Your estimate may change depending on your needs, goals, and preferences, and you are not obligated to continue therapy.

When You'll Receive It

Self-pay clients will receive a personalized Good Faith Estimate after the free 15-minute consultation and before the first billable session (such as an intake or therapy appointment).
You may also request an updated estimate at any time during your care.

Your Rights

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of expected charges at least 1 business day before your scheduled service.

  • You can request a Good Faith Estimate at any time.

  • If your bill is $400 or more above the estimate provided, you have the right to dispute the charge.

  • You may request a revised estimate if your treatment needs or goals change.

  • You may request a Good Faith Estimate verbally or in writing.
